We’re seeing more sides to the Blumarine this girl this season. She’s still in scanty togs – bedazzled with butterflies and doused in glitter – and anything sugary pink or lilac, she’s all over. But six collections in and the Y2K party princess that’s defined Nicola Brognano’s rejuvenation of the brand has done a bit of growing up.
Sophisticated would be the wrong word: silky minidresses, skin-tight sparkly twin sets and barely-there rah-rah skirts are still all the range. But this season, Brognano explored the darker, more sensual side, of his sassy nightcrawlers. An impressive cast – which included Lila Moss, Euphoria’s Chloe Cherry and OG Blumarine girl, Eva Herzigova – came clad in tailoring with sensual cut-outs at the hips, velvet frocks paired with sheer stockings and patent-leather jumpsuits with built in bustiers. The brand’s signature faux-fur-trimmed cardi had a make-over, too, now cut roomy and extended beyond the knee in crocheted wool.
A nocturnal palette of black, cherry red and royal purple dressed a larger range of bodies type this time around, with Brognano set on leaving the beauty ideals of the ’00s behind in his revival of all things Y2K. “Grown-up in her self-confidence, the Blumarine woman opens up to a powerful, uncompromising sensuality, free from any preconceived idea about physicality,” says the designer. “She’s aware that seduction is first and foremost an attitude.”
