What springs to mind when you think of champagne? Is it the 1976 Carolina Beaumont image captured by Jean Paul Goude or the photographer’s infamous internet breaking 2014 recreation 2014 starring Instagram’s booty du jour Kim Kardashian, balancing a glass of champs, on her derrière. Perhaps, if you’re anything like us Tenners, it’s the moment when Kermit the Frog gestures to the waiter in the 1979 The Muppet Movie. “Waiter, the wine please” he says, a hasty Miss Piggy coming back with a rightful correction,“You mad, impetuous thing, it’s champagne.”
Whichever your choice, the yellow-labelled Veuve Clicquot is right up there with the greats, and as all greats, they shine their light and endorse other greats. In honour of Madame “Veuve” Clicquot, a wealthy French businesswoman that overcame the upsetting demise of her husband and continued his legacy by taking the helm of his champagne business, the french brand is bringing the fourth instalment of the Maison’s Widow Series, an art project honouring creativity and innovation by exhibiting works curated by the illustrious of their fields.
Trailblazers, the likes of Nick Knight, FKA Twigs and Carine Roitfeld, have already collaborated with creative director, Patrick Kinmoth on these experiential exhibitions. This year, however, following the success of the previous iterations, the exhibit will be titled and dedicated to Rebels and curated by Tom Hingston, creative director to luxury brands like Dior and Rolls Royce and a very prominent director of music, who has previously worked with the likes of Grace Jones circa the chocolate sculpture. Filmmaker duo, Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones will also be part of the exhibition, providing a cinematic experience to die for. The presentation will host a number of other talented artists, including musician James Lavelle, installation artists Rebecca Louise Law and Anna Burns, to name but a few.
