The sun’s out, you’ve stocked up on the tinnies, and yes, festival season is truly back in full swing. Ravers, from all walks of life, will spend the next few months decanting to muddy fields up and down the country for weekends of total hedonism. The drinks will be flowing, the tunes banging and the vibes? Absolutely immaculate.
Kicking off inner-city goings-on this month is South London two-dayer Wide Awake. Launched in 2020, the independent festival is a delightful cocktail of post punk, electronica, techno, jazz and house. Founded by the original Field Day organisers, Bad Vibrations, LNZRT, SC&P, as well as East London favourites Moth Club and The Shacklewell Arms, the festival takes place this Friday and Saturday in Brockwell Park.
Day one is heavily dance oriented, with stage takeovers from the likes of Corsica Studios, Bugged Out and queer club night Adonis. Expect euphoric love shows from Overmono and Bicep, as well as sets from the likes of Call Super, Elkka, Carista and Moxie.
Saturday is headed up by Primal Scream who’ll present their Screamadelica show. Also on the bill are The Horrors, Floating Points and Fat White Family. Grab your mates and jump on the Victoria line south bound, you ain’t gonna want to miss this.
