There’s that saying that goes, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, which as much as we enjoy food, we’ve always believed that when it comes to us, the way to our heart is through our throats and necks. Pour vodka down one, sling a fancy round round the other and we’re yours. Which would probably go some way to explain our excitement of a Dominic Jones and Absolut Elyx collaboration. Yes, Dominic, creator of fancy jewels has created a limited number of bespoke rose gold bottle toppers and a pendant, which both include hand carved rock quartz shaped into a spout of water spiralling downwards. The project is in collaboration with Water For People and Absolut Elyx who have joined forces on a 5-year mission to bring access to safe water to over 100,000 people worldwide, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the charity. Only a heartless wench wouldn’t be moved by this. Which is why we had to ask Dominic a few questions about the project.
How did your collaboration with Absolut Elyx and Water For People come about?
I’ve worked with Absolut Elyx on lots of occasions, they’ve always kindly supported my events, one of the most memorable was my LC:M presentation where the models were playing a live poker match. It was that presentation that inspired the launch event for this collaboration. The quality and craftsmanship of the Elyx product, the way its crafted it’s something that made perfect sense when paired with the same care and quality I give to my work and product.
What was the inspiration behind your bottle topper?
They’re inspired by that thing I see around ten times every day and pay no attention to at all. Water going down a plug. They’re carved to be water funnels; the lid is one that is in use with water flowing, the pendant is one that is dry. It signifies the possibilities created by this project and the literal water provide by the sale of each and every bottle of Absolut Elyx.
What is it about Water For People that appealed to you?
This cause in particular is so important because it such a fundamental one, water is something that I personally take for granted every couple of hours each and every day. I’ve never had to worry about it, I can only think of a handful of times in my life where the water has cut for a few hours. Yet there are whole communities that don’t have any access to clean water, and it’s too easy to have that knowledge and keep it in that ‘out of sight out of mind’ mentality. I think it’s great that a company as well-known as Absolut are taking on such a long term project like this.
What’s your favourite cocktail?
Anything with yuzu. One of the drinks we served at our launch of the Water For People collection was was called The Dynasty Cocktail, which had Absolut Elyx, Yuzu Cordial, Lime Zest Garnish and Dried Lime Wheel
