Even though this season we didn’t get one of her iconic shows this season, The Queen of Punk honoured us with a collection that was nothing short of spectacular. For Spring/ Summer 2019, the Vivienne Westwood world is full of great clothes. Yes, it’s simple as that. Instead of taking it easy for a season without a big catwalk, our gal Viv went all out. It all started with five Taoist elements. Fire, earth, metal, water and wood were the primary points of reference for this collection that was part ready-to-war, part avantgarde, but 100% overflowing with youthfulness. But no, not the age-related kind. This was about an emotional youthfulness, a sense of positivity about the world despite its wrongs.
“My best advice is: buy less, dress up,” Queen Westwood says in the show notes. And looking at the lookbook images full of life, it totally makes sense. Her DIY essence is stronger than ever, making this collection aspirational first: it isn’t necessarily about owning every single piece of it. The point is to shop the statement pieces, and then build your personal story around it. These are clothes made for dancing, kissing, laughing, sweating… They are made to be worn while enjoying in life. So, don’t mind if we do…
