Some ideas are just too good to leave in the archive. Vivienne Westwood dug deep for AW21. She reached into her brilliant back catalogue, pulling out some of her best ideas and reinterpreting them for a new audience. From peep-hole cleavage knits, to mini-kilts, mixed-up tartans and sky-high platforms – all the essential Westwood ingredients were there.
The designer also revisited the Wallace collection, honing in on Boucher’s lusty depiction of Daphnis and Chloe, which was splashed over denim, mini dresses, quilted parkas and her famous corsets. There were orb hats and argyle socks, heart bags and even a Westwood tracksuit. It all feels fresh and joyful and still flips a middle finger at convention. As demand for vintage Westwood soars and other brands heavily reference her silhouettes, this collection was a timely reminder of just how enduring Westwood’s style is.
