VIVIENNE WESTWOOD: PARIS A/W 13
As we sat down in our seats at Westwood we were informed of her influences coming from the’ 4 corners. Historical and ethnic, structure and ‘flou’. This season she visited medieval Europe via the beautiful illustrations in illuminated manuscripts. The return of the crusaders changed England enormously. They brought back luxuries and ideas not only from Italy but from the Arab world.’ So this eclectic journey gave us the absolute signature of the house. Bold brave and unique dramatic Persian carpet printed capes, huge feather capes along with signature corseted tops and dresses made you feel reassured with the familiar silhouettes but expanded itself by introducing these new textures and prints. Less dramatic pieces appeared in the form of tailored jackets and coats but with the Westwood twist of extend sharp shoulders and tailored waists leaving no doubt as to the origin of the pieces.
