Jun Takahashi is feeling the jazzy vibes at Undercover SS17. Quite literally. So apparent, it was more a tribute to jazz. We sat in Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, under chandeliers as Gershwin’s composed tunes, Miles Davis and Art Farmer played. It was all about the music. Belts were printed as piano keys, quintets were printed onto shirts and photos of Sonny Rollins adorned loose skirts. Deep in that jazz realm. It felt like we had been transported into a Parisian private jazz club. The ladies wore tweed, high waisted wide leg pants and pearls. Bomber jackets were ribbed with colours of the French flag. They sauntered through, cool struttin’, Sonny Rollins would be proud. But the headliner of this collection was Bill Evans, his iconic track Waltz For Debbie and album Portrait were printed onto jackets and skirts even giving a nod to his post Miles Davis stint with the words Bill Evans trio printed everywhere. And then Takahashi brought Bill to life with a finale of ladies dressed in his iconic get up. And that was that.
