“The people need to be strong,” said Jun Takahashi of his Spring collection. It was about righteous aggression. Stand up for your rights and be counted kind of thing. The Rolling Stones’s “The Salt of the Earth” provided the soundtrack – “spare a thought for the rag taggy people, let’s drink to the salt of the earth” they sung. And rag taggy seems a good word to describe the collection – the models coming through as a gang of theatrical anarchists from a future – royal military garb deconstructed into almost clown-like shapes, bomber jackets and backpack straps, epaulettes and facepaint, combined with flowers and skirts and exploding ruffles. It may not all have be the perfect clothing to go to battle in, but it was certainly the right clothing to send a message. Right on.
