“Spring,” said Tolstoy “is the time for plans and projects.” But it’s also the time for reaping the rewards of someone’s else’s planning and in this case the appreciation goes to uber candle (and fragrance) makers Trudon. Why? Because it just launched a little fragrant, limited-edition Lost in a Moment candle duo to make the perfect companions for your summer event planning. “It’s all about a pop spirit”, says perfumer Alexandra Carlin, who imagined the duo of “mischievous scents as a sensory journey, halfway between freshness and sophisticated gourmet pleasure”.
The packaging comes with frosted glass vessels in vibrant, graduated colour: both pop-arty bright, one is pink (deep fuchsia through to English rose) and the other green (jade to light sea green). They aren’t the very first colourful moves away from the brand’s classic packaging, but they are the brightest – and the first pair. They’re also a fun element to add to all of your seasonal soirées to help to bring the mood.

Summer Haze, the pink, is the more gourmand and it isn’t too sweet or overpowering but more of a very wonderful rose (a sort of sugary floral) with an interesting twist of red berry macaroon accord alongside a base of musk and tonka bean. “In the summer shade, I see an irresistible line-up of juicy, tart red fruits, countless fresh rose petals and almond macaroons,” says Carlin of her inspiration. But whether you’re going al fresco or more fine dining chez you, this adds a bit of cheery sophistication.

Or light up and feel good about being green with Under The Trees. Carlin describes it as being “like a fresh and vivid mocktail that hydrates after a few hours spent in the summer sun” – though for me it’s all G&T in its full, afternoon libation, refreshing glory. The first note you get in this is a real hit of cucumber, which is wonderfully fresh, juicy and cheery. Alongside those are cedarwood, spearmint and blackcurrant, so it really does feel like something that has come “straight from a vegetable garden”. And there’s a hint of jasmine in there too for a dash of summer headiness.
You can buy them individually, but they work well together like a little tag team of fragrant disseminators that also multitask as they go by bringing some interiors points of interest too. Either way, singular or plural, these are a great way to literally light up the long spring/summer evenings and get the party started. Shop Trudon’s Lost in a Moment candle duo here.
