You know in films about extra terrestrials, when they’ve managed to tcp one, and they keep it in one of those clear cylinder things topped and bottomed with steel, and the alien sort of hangs suspended in fluid and there’s this weird pinkish blue light? Well this was a bit like that, minus the cylinder. Clothes suspended mid air, bathed in bluish light. It feels other worldly. Especially when set against the cold concrete floor and reflected in the mirrored surroundings, showing off the immaculate design work from every angle. Even the names of the garments are otherworldly. Take the sheer, horizontally ribbed jumper in white called ‘Ghost Stripe’. The collection itself isn’t ‘new’, rather a selection of pieces carefully curated from Thomas’ past collections, selected to “demonstrate various areas of Thomas’ design interests and savoir-faire ranging from shoes, jewellery, knit, leather goods and textile innovation”, showcasing the evolution of both of his ideas and designs. Sort of like a 3D clothing version of those drawings that show apes evolving into man. The pieces themselves though, rather than having been pulled from the archives have been remade. Think of it as a revisitation, a sort of greatest hits made greater if you will. Or more simply, a celebration of favourites.
