In news that dropped into our inboxes mere moments ago – the artist formerly known as the London Fashion Weekend shall henceforth be known as London Fashion Week Festival. Because why have just a weekend when you can have a whole damn festival? Open to the public and following London Fashion Week in February and September, the newly christened event will be a four-day extrava-gan-zah with events across the city. It’s all, apparently, to “recognise the BFC’s ongoing commitment to building consumer engagement with British designers and has been at the core of the organisation’s strategy since the first edition of London Fashion Weekend which took place in 1998. The London Fashion Week Festival will drive a city-wide celebration of an industry worth £28 billion to the UK economy and which employs nearly 900,000 people across the country.” Because fashion isn’t just for us industry sorts, it’s for everyone. Ahhhh. And, the BFC also announced that all three of their bi-annual events – London Fashion Week, London Fashion Week Festival and London Fashion Week Men’s will all be under one roof on The Strand in The Store Studios. Like one big happy family.
