Denim, digitised chintz, bodies tucked up high into themselves under opened-up shirts and high-rise boxer shorts. Weird mix, innit? But that was the spring 2016 Thakoon collection, chopped open, tugged about, wrapped around, complicated. But not to watch, nor to wear, just to design and make, which is exactly how it should be. Thakoon’s ideas were relatively straightforward – his press notes just chattered about texture and textile, both of which were in abundance. The important bit weren’t the words, but when Thakoon’s ideas were put into action. They added up to one of the most energising and energetic of the New York shows so far.
