Our weekend plans are already packed. It’s London Fashion Week, you know? In case you’re not coming along physically, be sure to follow all the fabulous, high-heeled shenanigans via our Instagram – @10magazine that is. But while you’re not looking at your phone, we’ve got something else for you to do. One of fashion industry’s fave artists and the youngest living member of the Royal Academy of Arts (thanks Google), London-born-and-raised sculptor Conrad Shawcross has just opened his new exhibition at the Victoria Miro gallery in Mayfair. After the Explosion, Before the Collapse it’s called, and no it’s not based on our current, pre-fashion week state of mind.
The exhibition is all your essential Shawcross in one place. Towering abstract sculptures formed out of stainless steel (also known as Fractures) are surrounded by photographic prints created by firing a laser through a series of faults in fragments of glass. This particular image of chaos captured in a single moment represents the meeting of art and function, almost like if a mathematician and philosopher came together to create an art piece. And that’s all happening in the genius mind of Conrad Shawcross. However difficult your week has been, After the Explosion, Before the Collapse will make you think harder, while allowing you to enjoy the physicality of the work around you. If you’re going to be there over the next couple of days, look out for us. We’re the ones standing in the corner, frantically writing up our reviews in between the shows. Being surrounded by beauty stimulates the brain, right?
