Beaded bags are once again the talk of the town as we clamber to find the perfect bag to accompany the sunsoaked days of the coming months. So of course, Saint Laurent had to come along and show everyone else how it’s done with a new, beaded version of its Icare tote bag.
Crafted from certified wood (the French house’s measure for assessing a material’s environmental impact), the Light Wood And Brick Medium Icare In Wood Beads evokes the diamond quilting of its lambskin sibling in the bag’s beading which sits atop a brick-toned panel of calfskin for added stature. An oversized brass version of the iconic YSL Cassandre logo takes centre-stage atop the bag’s intricate handicraft too, bringing a bohemian edge to that classic Saint Laurent glamour. One can certainly imagine carrying it down for a day sat by the pool at the late designer’s famed Villa Oasis in Morocco, or for some M&S picky bits in Primrose Hill, bank cards firmly secured in the bag’s matching, removable, zip pouch.
The medium-sized Icare shopper is but one jewel in Saint Laurent’s new collection of beaded sacs, with the brand reinterpreting other styles including the Le 5 à 7 shoulder bag, in small and large, and the typically-raffia Panier basket bag, through this artisanal gaze.
