It’s also the apt name of one of Dolce & Gabbana’s most beloved bags. The My Sicily bag, first unveiled as part of the SS09 collection, re-arrives with fresh iterations you can’t help but covet. In the new plongé lux leather (a high-quality calf-skin leather known for its glossy softness, light weight and nubuck-like texture), with one version shrouded in faux fur, the bag is built for a cosmopolitan lifestyle that couples with summers spent under the sun.
As a functional tribute to the “beauty, mysteries, traditions and vibrant colours” of the Mediterranean island, the new My Sicily bag features a tuck-in closure, a branded or optionally personalised hang tag with a chunky vintage brass or gunmetal padlock carabiner and comes in a variety of sizes and sun-kissed tones – sand, volcanic black, blush rose, caffè latte and burgundy. The magnetic flap closure itself places a plaque with a “guilloché” pattern at its centre, repurposing a sophisticated engraving technique often found in watchmaking. Soft yet structured thanks to reinforced side piping, on the cotton interior, a hot-stamped gold film bearing the inscription “Dolce&Gabbana My Sicily Made in Italy” adds a dash of authenticity, and on the exterior, an engraved logo at the back adds a bold, branded touch to the design.
The My Sicily can be hand held or slung over the shoulder thanks to a removable and adjustable strap and boasts a zip-up interior pocket.
