Ten Loves: Céline’s Trifold Shopper

Last week, when I was in Paris, I found myself at Céline HQ. Céline HQ, or, as it is more commonly known amongst Philophiles such as myself, Mecca. If you, like I did, ever find yourself there, on Rue de Vivienne, please be warned that the following thoughts will go through your head: I feel dirty. My clothes are creased. They also look cheap. Why did I wear this? I’m horrible. Etc. It’s mainly down to the fact that you are surrounded by wholly beautiful, perfect things – clothes, people, light, a fuckload of marble. Anyway, I saw the clothes. Which were, of course, perfect. And then, downstairs. A room of accessories. Céline accessories. Enough, might I add, to make a grown man cry, were he not being shown around by very nice PR. At the centre of this room of wonder – the Trifold. It’s Céline’s latest classic bag, which is code for “brilliant”, being as it sits alongside their other classic bags like the Trotteur, Trapeze and Luggage. The Trifold is a shopper. It’s folded a bit like origami (hence the fold) – were origami to be done not in grotty old paper, but perfect, buttery leather. It has three compartments. Hence the tri. Three big, spacious compartments. “Feel it,” says PR. “Pick it up”. I do. Perfectly weighted. It makes my hand look… beautiful. Call this an investment piece. An investment so good that it could possibly revitalise an entire country’s economy. Outside, I had to just stand for a moment. It was all too much.
