The Original Venice Skatepark Reopens Its Ramps

Venice Beach, the OG skateboarding capital of the world, has just reopened its ramps, following a community-led drive supported by the Nicolai Marciano Fund and The Skatepark Project. The occasion was, of course, honoured in style with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that commended the impact the space has had on skateboarding culture and beyond since the 1970s. The likes of pro skating legend Jesse Martinez and Zephyr Skateboards founder Jeff Ho among others, shredding across the hallowed grounds into the late afternoon. Delve Into Fashion history with McQueen

McQueen has released a new episode of its archival mini-series Documenting McQueen. In the film, Alistair O’Neill, fashion historian and Central Saint Martins professor, visits the McQueen archive to explore the house’s history, design codes and symbols alongside never-before-seen sketches. Following earlier episodes on tailoring and tartan, Professor O’Neill uncovers the origin of the harness, considering looks from early McQueen collections in 1999 through to 2005. The harness is a subversive detail representing both restraint and freedom, transformation and strain, reflecting Lee Alexander McQueen’s captivation with these opposing forces. O’Neill discusses technique, materials and styling across collections, and how such different usage can change its symbolism. If you’re a fashion history buff, it’s worth a watch. Dive in here. GM
