Jawara Alleyne and Alvaro Barrington’s Notting Hill Carnival Celebrations

Jawara Alleyne and Alvaro Barrington are teaming up to host a one-day pop-up event in celebration of this year’s Notting Hill Carnival. Taking place tomorrow at Barrington’s Whitechapel HQ, the event is set to showcase the principles of culture and community that are so deeply rooted in the annual celebration and continue to define it today.

The artistic fusion will feature the pair’s recent collaboration, the Come Home Capsule created in support of the Notting Hill Carnival Trust, alongside pieces from Alleyne’s Grace edit – which pays homage to the DIY culture and punk philosophies at the heart of Carnival and Caribbean art and is inspired by Alleyne’s ongoing collaborative display with Alvaro at the Tate – and a selection of other capsule edits from the Untitled by Jawara Alleyne collection.

This emphasis on performance within Caribbean culture resonates with both Barrington and Alleyne’s creative practice and their relationships with Carnival. Alleyne’s designs showcase the evolution of Carnival costumes and adornments, paying homage to their beauty as well as the DIY practices and punk philosophies inherent in Caribbean culture, whilst Barrington is renowned for his artistic explorations of his diasporic heritage. MARC JACOBS Sets Up At SELFRIDGES

It’s time to get your butt over to Selfridges’ because Marc Jacobs has transformed the luxury department store’s second floor atrium into a whimsical exhibit centred around the New York-based brand’s fall 2024 collection. Upon entry to the Oxford Street pop-up, expect to be immersed in an exclusive display that playfully reinterprets classical architecture with a tongue-in-cheek twist using decor made up of ancient-style busts and statues draped in Marc Jacobs bags with murals featuring the brand’s iconic Kiki Boots and Tote bags bedecking the walls. The collection itself blends ’80s punk and glamour, with an array of red and black satin two-pieces, zebra sequin mini dresses and studded denim all on offer, alongside the debut of the new ‘The’ items range, like The Jean and The Shirt. There are also pieces that nod to the ‘Marchives’ such as a fluffy zebra print coat (as seen on Cardi B in this season’s campaign) and an adorable cat-adorned jumper. But that’s not all! CHANEL Buys Stake IN Luxury Watchmaker MB&F

FIELD MANEUVERS GOES OUT WITH A BANG

Talks about a proper party. Last weekend we danced under a sea of lasers and a supermoon at the final ever Field Maneuvers (in its current form, that is). The no frills, dirty little rave, which takes place in Norfolk, has spent just over a decade as one of the best festivals on the UK circuit. With just over 1,000 guests attending this year’s edition, the team behind the party plan to downsize the annual knees up for its next iteration. Not before one more big blow out, though.

The weekend was chock-full with both FM main stays and selectors who played the party for the first time. Highlights included Angel D’Lite dropping Geri Halliwell’s  “Scream If You Wanna Go Faster” peak set, LCY bringing the Low End Dreams Friday takeover to a wonderfully wonky climax, Marc Mac playing his first ever full Manix set over 30 years after first making tunes under the alias and Josey Rebelle and Ben Sims taking the Sputnik stage to another dimension with their b2b in FM’s final hours.

You’ll be stumped to find a moment of sheer, euphoric joy quite like the FM Dalston Superstore takeover, which took place on the festival’s final day. The beloved East London queer nightclub brought along a slew of its regular selectors – including Faff, J.Aria, Fancy Shews! and Michelle Manetti to soundtrack the day – with the likes of Nadine Noor and Taahliah bringing proceedings to a glorious close inside the FM Tent.
