“It’s like that vintage find you’ll never find!” “That show’s got Anna Wintour written all over it!” Just two of the compliments we paid British Coach designer, Stuart Vevers, when we ran backstage to congratulate him after his AW17 show. Picture staff of Ten Towers stroking this coat of many colours for longer than is considered decent. Look closely at the hand-stitched suede patches, which create a dreamy coming-together of autumnal shades and textures. This is just one of the go-grab pieces in the collection that had us and the rest of the British fashion corps blowing bubbles of front-row spittle in anticipation. Fear not, as this (and those incredible shell-toe sheepskin high-tops) will drop at the Regent Street store shortly. But “expect queues”, said the man in the shop. His advice: put your name down now. Look at the little birds traced with rivets on the breast section. They’re as divine in real life as in the picture and proof, should you need any more, that Coach are pursuing atelier standards in their now-mammoth ready-to-wear collections. So what’s best to wear with your new coat? Vevers put his with one of the many exceptional prairie frocks on the runway, but you could equally pull on your fave worn-out flares and blocky chestnut boots for maximum 1970s Rhoda-style girl power.
