How Terrific Tailoring is Done, The Alexander McQueen Way

Move over Netflix, Alexander McQueen has firmly taken centre stage as our favourite lockdown entertainment. Each week the brand has given never-before-seen access inside the making of their collections, alongside exclusive tutorials with McQueen collaborators to guide you in making your own McQueen-inspired magic from the comfort of your own home. Just last week, McQueen spotlighted the Irish research trip the brand took in the making of their SS20 womenswear showcase, whilst also giving an exclusive look into how the golden eyelets were beautifully utilised throughout the collection. This time around, McQueen will be focusing on tailoring. As much as the brand’s SS20 offering was gentle and ethereal through its use of white beetled linin, the signature tailoring spread throughout the collection gave it a firm grit in its teeth. Using traditional menswear fabrics to walk the fine line between masculine and feminine, pictured below with the Story Shoulder bag, sharp silhouettes had serious bite – perfect for the McQueen woman who wants to make a statement.

What about the men you ask? Well, McQueen are also using the next upcoming days to spotlight the kaleidoscopic tailoring that dominated their SS20 menswear collection, releasing never-before-seen images by Don McCullin. The calligraphy flowers that are woven throughout the collection were taken from artworks handpainted in the McQueen studio, with splashes of fuchsia and indigo blooming suits from classicly sleek into mesmerising displays. In the garden of McQueen, tailoring flourishes.
