Style Council: Ten Meets Marc Forne

Dressing the world’s biggest musicians is no small feat, yet the stylists featured inside 10 Magazine Issue 74 make crafting superstar fashion perfection look like light work.

Marc Forné, celebrity stylist and co-founder of Carrer

The past 12 months have seen Troye Sivan establish himself as one of the most fashion-forward gents in the biz, and it’s all thanks to the Spanish stylist Marc Forné, who has kitted out the Aussie pop sensation in everything from vintage Tom Ford Gucci to custom McQueen. Forné got his start as a model and has styled shoots for magazines including GQ and Esquire.

How would you describe what you do?

I like to say I work in fashion. I started on social media, building relationships with brands and people, and gradually found my way through different paths in the same field. Styling came naturally after years of styling myself and being surrounded by fashion. It brought me so much joy when I shifted from focusing solely on myself to bringing a vision to life for someone else. Carrer, the brand I co-founded, is a result of wanting to create my ideal wardrobe – packing clothes without overthinking and knowing it’s always the right choice.

What place does fashion have in music today?

Fashion has a huge impact on music. It’s always been that way, but now it’s like a main pillar of an artist’s career. It adds authenticity, personality and that element of ‘the new thing’ every time. Fashion helps artists communicate, start industry conversations and engage their fanbase.

How do you work with an artist to build their image?

It starts with understanding who you’re working with, listening to them and bringing your ideas based on their personality and style. It’s a conversation where the artist feels comfortable, empowered and themselves. It’s about pushing boundaries, stepping out of your comfort zone and staying aligned.

What’s been your proudest image-making moment with an artist?

My most recent work with Troye has definitely been the most fun and rewarding of my career. His European and US tours were the perfect opportunity to explore his chameleon-like approach to fashion. We tried so many different styles, creating unique characters for each show and really leaning into the fashion icon he’s always been.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?

It’s when the talent comes back and tells you how amazing or confident they felt wearing what you chose for them. Seeing people enjoy and appreciate someone’s look and knowing you were part of that is everything. Plus, having those memories of incredible moments with your team and the artist is priceless.

What’s your favourite getting-ready track?

Anything by Pet Shop Boys or New Order.

Tour looks or red carpet dressing – which do you prefer?

Tour looks are more fun, but they can also be more challenging, especially when you want to experiment beyond the classics and need to make sure everything is stage-proof. But the payoff is worth it.

If you were in a band, how would you style yourself?

My alter ego as a musician would probably wear masks so I could go on stage without getting nervous and switch up my personality each night. I’d use it as an excuse to have all the fun I don’t usually have in my daily life.
