As welcoming committees go, this was a fashion first. An army of people dressed in fluffy animal suits – dogs, a crocodile, horses, cows – greeted show goers. They posed for pictures and gave out hugs with all the upbeat enthusiasm of a Disneyland newbie. As well as big furry animal love, free trees were also on offer. The designer gave every show goer a sapling to take home and plant. “We should all be carbon neutral” said an attached note “planting this tree is part of the solution.” Stella McCartney leads the conversation when it comes to fashion ethics. Doubling down on her message, she used more vegan leather and PVC free, cruelty-free materials than ever before. Fantastic shaggy wool coats served as a cruelty-free sheepskin alternative. The collection was also marked by a special collaboration with the Erté archive which brought a playfully prettiness to the prints. At the end, the furry animal mascots joined McCartney’s models for the finale and it was feel-good vibes all round.
