Before there was “woke” there was Stella McCartney. She’s always been on the right side of the moral/eco/ethical argument – it’s just taken the rest of the fashion world 20-odd years to catch up. She pours her principles into her clothes. Alongside the sustainable viscose and organic cotton she’s been championing, this collection brought upcycling to the forefront with the designer reusing fabric from past collections and weaving dresses from vintage T-shirt’s. Her upcycled military coats played into the season’s strong utility vibe, whilst lush fur-free furs had the snuggle factor.
Stella knows how to make a good coat. Hers boasted strong shouldered silhouettes but oozed real-life wearability – and not just for one season. Power shouldered silk dresses had an unapologetic oomph. Stompy faux leather thigh boots were practical but sleek. These are the kind of clothes you’d DM your best girlfriends about. Consider yourself told.
