Another dousing of photographic talent, this time in the form of Parisian photographer and artist, Marianne Maric, who presented this photo set, “Les statues ne meurent pas” as part of the brief that Sophia set for Mastered: Photography. Who doesn’t enjoy some semi-naughty sculpture action? Maric was inspired by statues found in the films of Godard and Cocteau, as well as Joy Division’s album cover for Closer. Over to Sophia…
Love the playful eroticism and composition – the irreverence and combination of sculpture and real life. Look at the work of Charlie Engman, Magnus Unnar and Juergen Teller. Has an a sense of urgency and vitality that is cleverly captured in a still image. Would love Marianne backstage at my shows to capture the chaos and see the humour – I honestly feel she could document something very special and unique.
