Like a dip into our tasty pick ‘n’ mix bag containing a selection of the world’s most promising young photographers, here’s number 3 of Sophia’s favs from the project she set the image-makers attending Mastered: Photography with Nick Knight (find out more here). So who’s behind door number three? Introducing the Neophitou-approved Alex Saint, a photographer who’s “obsessed with beauty, nostalgia, powerful women”. Good choices. This particular series of photos, entitled “Unravel Ravel”, was inspired by the city of Barcelona – the city that changed his life. “This shot is done in “El Raval”, he says “where the mix of cultures, colors, foods, sounds, smells and people always inspires me. I wanted to imagine a supermodel living there, a little bit like a cartoon story.” Here’s what Sophia thought…
“Loved the documentary element of this photography and the light hyper-reality of the flash on camera, but so brilliantly captured in an everyday environment. So much to love about these images – if it was not about the fashion at all and she had been naked in each image would have been just as brilliant. What I love is how he sees reality and documents in the hyperreal light – almost painterly. This is someone I would love to capture backstage at shows – I think he could create some amazing images. Alex should look at the work of Philip Lorca di Corcia and David LaChapelle but capturing reality not fiction. The beauty in everyday reality – just loved this work.”
