A year of lockdown saw the increase in socks and slides combination as you simply didn’t have any need to get dressed and put actual shoes on. It is a pairing in which you either love or simply cannot stand, there’s no in-between. But one thing is for certain and that is we never thought we’d be seeing the combo walking down the catwalk for luxury fashion houses.
From bold colours to sleek designs and large buckles we’re excited to continue stepping out in socks and slides remixed by some of our favourite brands. Here are our best pairings from the menswear SS22 collections.
JW Anderson
JW Anderson brought the fun to the spring menswear shows, a throwback to his own upbringing in Northern Ireland with bright colours, strawberry patterns and simple yet stylish slides with their logo planted front and centre. We’ll be surprised if we don’t start seeing these everywhere.
Prada
Prada, being Prada have also jumped on the sandal/slide train and added their own spin by squaring off the front of the shoe. A couple of minutes into their film, the models were walking on a beach off the coast of Capo Carbonara, nice for some eh? Why not grab a pair yourself and head down to the southeast of Sardinia and catch some rays.
Fendi
Fendi is giving us all kinds of freedom this summer with not just one but a number of different slide and sandal options. In a range of bright pastel colours – another big theme in this year’s collection, the cross-strapped sandals are a perfect addition to your summer outfit. A stand-out is the baby pink straps with a slightly darker sole accompanying the house’s smart tailoring. Who said sandals were only meant for lounging around in?
Dior
Dior truly has it all in their spring-summer 2022 collection. The anticipated collaboration with Houston rapper Travis Scott provided so many options for your wardrobe. Designer, Kim Jones seems to fuse a slipper, sandal and slide all in one with his two strapped adaptation. Keeping with the collection’s black/grey and cream colour palette the sandals look extremely comfy as the buckles and whole top of the shoe are shearling-lined, worn with cashmere socks. Style and comfort, what more do you need? We don’t expect these to last long on the shelves.
Hermès
Returning back to presenting her menswear collection during the normal spring/summer dates, Véronique Nichanian named her SS22 collection ‘Double Game’ which was expressed in a variety of ways with an array of reversible garments, layered prints and most importantly, the calfskin sandals. Worn to accompany various looks with both leather Bermuda shorts and relaxed, rolled up trousers, Nichanian’s sandals look a perfect go-to for your next holiday.
