Simone Rocha: Ready-to-wear AW16

There’s something to be said for having a signature look, especially a strong recognisable one, one that you manage to reinterpret from season to season, yet remains unmistakably you. And that is something that Simone Rocha has. All her hallmarks were here, the colour palette, the sheer layers, the floral motifs, but this season it was imbued with a darker, almost sinister undertone. There was a witchiness to this. The show notes mentionned Victoriana, rebirth, strictness and mess, amongst other things. Anyway, apart from a sense of witchiness how was this different? Volume. Almost bulbous, and below the waist line. Ruched pockets of organza layered over pale cafe au lait tweeds shot through with gold and ragged, cobweb like black knits. To be honest, rather than witchy, it was almost nymph like. Mystical. Good nymph gone bad.
