Simone Rocha: Ready-to-wear AW17

There was something of the Queen Mum to this. The Queen Mum in the Highlands. We saw it on The Crown. Let us elaborate. It’s that kind of sturdy, outdoor wear that British royals do so well – found here in those amazing robust velvet hunter jackets that opened the show, worn with hunting bags that crossed the chest and fell on the back. An outfit that might usually be worn with Wellington boots, here worn with a perspex heel and fur situation. Much better. There was even a rabbit shaped bag in fur. Or the, what we’ll call, XXL fur coat, that engulfed the model’s body in warmth. Ladies that know how to wield a firearm. But there was a romantic femininity that seeped in, as Simone is so adept at – outerwear quilted or embellished with flowers, or the delicate red roses that sat upon Simone’s weightless constructions. This time, though, they were worn over jumpers or shirts, providing something altogether more sturdy. And all modelled upon the bodies of all different ages, including one that was 70-years-old. Who probably, at 40 years our senior, looked better than we ever have. Or will. And, to be honest, we were spoiled with beauty. Overwhelmed with it. So much so, that it left Phoebe and I feeling a little bit emotional. Bravo Simone.
