You know that Coco Chanel saying that goes something like: when you leave the house you should look in the mirror should take off one accessory? Well, ignore that. Here at Ten Towers, we say that when you leave then house you should actually add one. And then seven more. Because, as with most life pursuits, we like to be dripping. Dripping with accessories. Hence why, it was with much excitement that we trotted along Oxford Street to Selfridges this morning to lay our eyes on their brand new accessories hall. See this as a preview – the £300 million project to transform the space into the largest accessories hall in the world (!) is ongoing, but today they opened part of the ah-mazing David Chipperfield space to la public. Which was, unsurprisingly, beautiful. A bit like a dream I once had – marble, columns, lighting that doesn’t make you look like a dead corpse. Because, when purchasing your ‘spensive new bag, an ordinary shopping experience just won’t do. Each designer has kitted out their own areas – lava-lamp style shelves at Anya, fishing rods at Stella, glass museum cases at Chanel. And, as it it couldn’t get any better, it comes complete with a bar named The Fount. Getting pissed and shopping for expensive things? If members of Team Ten go AWOL in the next few days, you know where to find us. It’s open now.
