A delicious feast of haute couture. How does that sound as a kick start to Monday morning? It was Bertrand Guyon’s notion for his spring Schiaparelli show – having turned the basement of the Schiap boutique in Place Vendôme into a trattoria yesterday to set the mood. Today he piled crockery high as a backdrop and embroidered and embellished his dresses with all manner of glorious food, elaborate implements and few gilded langoustines as suitably Surrealistic jewellery. This sort of thing was always Elsa Schiaparelli’s bag – she enjoyed dinners with Salvador and Gala Dali, so this barmy banquet in her name would surely have satisfied couture’s kooky queen.
