Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the heads of Valentino, were in the house to cheer on Bertrand Guyon – formerly of their atelier, now helping the house of Schiaparelli. There was plenty to applaud, in the swirly tinsel embroideries and arty prints that echoed Elsa past, but also the sharp cuts and neat way with a velvet column or wispy chiffon pleated thingum that suggests the house may well have a future. Schiap’s a tough gig, given the reverence many feel for the name. But maybe Guyon is the guy for the job.
