Johnny Depp’s latest role is that of the Dior man and face of their new fragrance, Sauvage. For those of you who were not paying attention in GCSE French – sauvage means wild – ‘a name that has the ring of a manifesto,’ according to Dior. When we attempted to find the correct definition of the word, we discovered that it is a term also commonly used on French wine tasting notes to reference gamy, earthy flavours. Yum. Perhaps this is what we can expect from the fragrance? Probably not, but more likely than ‘a wine that was fermented with wild or indigenous yeasts’, as it can also denote. Anyway, you don’t actually get to see Depp in the trailer, rather hear the smoky tones of his disembodied voice: ‘I have to get out of here,’ he growls to slowly panning shots of a city by night. ‘Which way? I don’t know.’ We’re going to guess that he’s heading towards the desert – something we’ve surmised from the trickle of images Dior have released, featuring eagles and cacti and other desert-y things. So – road trip anyone?
The full film will be released September 2.
