Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? The answer is Santoni as they launch their new SS19 campaign. An unlikely meeting of beauty and footwear comes to life in a set of portraits and short films, all art directed by Tony Chambers. “What is beauty and where do you find it?” They ask 10 Makers of Beauty. Masters of their respective fields – architects, students, fashion directors, designers and entrepreneurs – all break down the importance of expression. Interpersonal, yet also incredibly personal and subjective – beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. And then there’s Santoni, creating beautiful objects in the shape of fabulous shoe since 1975.
Hidden in service, joy and craft, the beauty comes from everywhere and anywhere. According to one of the ten, High Snobiety’s fashion director Atip Wananuruks, beauty is “in the things I see in my everyday life, from a baby’s smile or laugh, to the mischievous glint in my grandparent’s eyes, to sunsets, to sunrises. There is an old-world definition of beauty that I think goes back to the Greek and Roman times when it was defined in physique, in the way one held themselves. But what we appreciate in this age breaks away those boundaries – as we’ve come to see inner beauty.”
In the heavy world we live in today, it comes natural to consume ourselves with the negative. So, thank you, Santoni, for reminding us to focus on the brighter side of life. A smile and a great pair of shoes included.
