Haven’t the Fashion Awards come around so fast! The most stylish night of the year is just around the corner. Whilst we frantically book in last-minute appointments to sort out our tatty barnets before the big night, we’re celebrating a man who knows how to craft a timeless cut. A wizard with the heated wand, hairstylist extraordinaire Sam McKnight is being honoured with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator at this year’s ceremony. Working in the industry for close to fifty years, McKnight is the scissor-hands behind some of the most iconic chops within the pop-cultural landscape over the last half a century. McKnight has transformed Tilda Swinton to Ziggy Stardust, slicked back Madonna’s signature curls for her Bedtime Stories LP sleeve and maintained Princess Diana’s signature chopped locks.
McKnight has played a hand in creating fashion images that have withstood the test of time. With over 200 Vogue covers under his belt, the stylist has worked on campaigns and runway shows for everyone from Chanel and Fendi right through to Vivienne Westwood and Balmain. And McKnights’ reign isn’t letting up any time soon. Following a Somerset House exhibition dedicated to his incredible legacy back in 2016, McKnight is still very much fully-booked and busy today. He was the mastermind behind the hair for each aforementioned brands’ SS20 catwalks, as well as working on the mammoth Mary Katrantzou show at the Temple of Poseidon. “Sam is one of the most important image-makers of our time, hugely respected within the fashion community and a source of inspiration for many generations to come,” says Caroline Rush, Chief Executive at the BFC. We expect a night of big hair and even bigger personalities – popcorn at the ready.
The Fashion Awards 2019 will take place on Monday 2nd December at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
