Sacai: Ready-to-wear AW16

Love was the theme at Chitose Abe’s Sacai show – and the fashion world loves Sacai (us included) so how appropriate? It was play on the declaration that “love will save the day” – the characters of the statement re-imagined by a Japanese calligrapher, those embroidered and applied in abstract forms, like leaves of organza on a series of trademark Sacai cut-n-paste jackets, bonded to velvet, or woven into wool melton tailored coats. Sometimes they rubbed up against organza military symbols – mess dress made feminine and pretty. They would up looking like flowers. Especially in the shrunken bikers, criss crossed with bondage straps. – details traditionally seen as symbols of aggression to bring warmth and enveloping comfort. How, well, lovely.
