Rosalía is officially a Dior darling. Fresh off the floral carpet at the 2024 Met Gala (Rosalía wore an all-black bustier, tailcoat and straight skirt set by Dior that took 1800 hours of atelier time to complete), the French house announced this morning that the Grammy-winning Spanish singer is its newest global ambassador.
Celebrating the creative alliance with a sophisticated Lady Dior campaign lensed by American photographer Collier Schorr, Rosalía brings a certain, ageless allure and a touch of grace to the iconic handbag. Captured amidst an intimate setting fitted only with a piano and microphone, the advertorial explores “the spontaneous emotion of colour and the profound intensity of black and white”.
Making its debut on the arm of the late Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1995 (then called Chouchou) the Lady Dior is a staple accessory revisited season after season by Maria Grazia Chiuri and unveiled in incredible variations. From the annual Lady Dior Art scheme which calls upon artists across the globe to reinterpret the bag, to allowing for customer customisation, it weaves the “alchemical, primordial ties between heritage and reinvention(s) at the heart of the house’s identity”. This is exemplified here, as clutched in the musician’s manicured hands are various versions of the architectural bag; one decorated by strings of pearls in the house’s emblematic cannage, another in matte black quilted leather and third in patent leather – each with dangling ‘DIOR’ charms that echo those of the founding-couturier.
The first Monday in May wasn’t the first time Dior tapped the ‘Bizochito’ singer. During its cruise 2023 show in Seville, Spain, models walked to a mashup of tracks including excerpts from her second studio album El Mal Querer. This link-up has been a longtime coming.
