Roland Mouret: Ready-To-Wear AW24

Roland Mouret, a purveyor of glamour and design excellence, has released his AW24 collection via lookbook, and it’s an alluring panoply of afternoon-tea-cum-red-carpet-ready dresses and suit variations (a long wool coat with a flared skirt, a strapless wool jumpsuits with wide legs, a slim aubergine tux, etc).

Unfolding through a “symphony of textures, hues, and meticulous design elements, all curated to capture the essence of modern elegance”, according to the collection notes, immaculate, cascading drapes of silk, taffeta, luxurious velvet and textural bouclé took notes from Old Hollywood glamour. A mixture of evening wear and tailoring, sculptural garments jutted out with peplum waists or came cinched in with satin sashes to emphasise feminine curves. New embellishments were introduced, taking shape in diamante dresses and straight-cut trousers that shimmer under the shifting light. One slender mulberry number proved to be a particular standout, cut with a vampiric, three-dimensional sweetheart neckline that jutted out into razor-sharp points at the armpit.

Additional gowns arrived in muted hues of green, navy, blush pink, lilac, aubergine and cream. These were sleek and streamlined, clean-cut with strapless or plunging necklines, dropped waists and voluminous circle skirts. Worn with boleros or gold buckle belts and either pointy heels or combat boots for a more relaxed feel, it was the kind of wardrobe women dream of.

An updated rendition of Mouret’s Moon Dress was crafted in lush taffeta and velvet and had a removable sash while the Origami Dress, now strapless or long sleeved, featured a paper-like folded bust. The whole thing had an air of playfulness, yet maintained its timeless and mature status. Mouret knows what women want.
