Sad news comes from Rome this morning – Carla Fendi, honourary president of the Fendi company, has passed away aged 79. Pictured centre in 1987, Carla was one of the five Fendi sisters who, beginning in the 1950s, built Fendi from the ground up and all the way into the internationally renowned powerhouse that it is today. Forging inroads into the US and responsible for the house’s marketing and communication strategy. Carla was also instrumental at bringing Karl Lagerfeld in as designer, maintaining a close relationship with him until she died.
This morning, in a statement, the house said: “Carla never stopped to actively contribute with unchanged passion to the success of the company that continued to be a reason to live; from the first international recognitions obtained with the help of the four sisters until her last days. She was for all of us a source of inspiration and an example of dedication, work culture and sensibility for beauty. She will accompany us forever.”
