Rick Owens: AW16 Menswear

A giant bubbly puffer coat like a vat of bubbling tar. A few melting Wicked Witch If The West shearlings slipping and sliding about the body. A bleached bit of denim that looks, we must admit, a bit like a bird had done its business on it. Apparently, Rick Owens was thinking about honey bees and dinosaurs and evolution and catastrophe – as well as rococo ladies in pannier gowns. So all our references were wrong. But overall it was a stunning riposte to all the sensible, wearable, uninteresting “clothing” we’ve been seeing. This was fashion with a capital F.
