STOP! We know it’s payday, we know it’s Black Friday, we know that glittery frock looks extra shiny now it’s 30% off. But do you really need another tacky party dress that’ll live its life at the back of your wardrobe after you wear to your Xmas staff-do? It’s estimated that £140 millon worth of clothing is sent to landfill in the UK alone each year, so this Black Friday, #TOGETHERBAND are encouraging you to think before you splash the cash.
The charitable campaign creates colourful bands using sustainable materials, making them by hand in Nepal from upcycled ocean plastic. With each band purchase, a whopping 1 Kg of plastic is removed from marine environments. Today, #TOGETHERBAND announced its newest ambassador, none other than fashion’s favourite Irishman, Richard Malone! The womenswear designer and Fashion East alumni join as an ambassador in aiming to achieve Goal 12 of the UN’s Global Goals, Responsible Production and Consumption. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2014, Malone has been a champion of sustainability with his namesake label. From sourcing his fabric from a community of female weavers in Tamil Nadu, southern India, to strictly producing his collections in limited numbers, Malone is a sustainable knight in shining armour. Hats off to #TOGETHERBAND for picking a fantastic ambassador indeed.
