What’s up London Fashion Week, we are in the building. This was the collection for “every heroine who knows how to hustle.” Richard Malone you’re speaking to us. For his second solo showing at London Fashion Week, Malone was focusing on his superwomen, the guts of women who thrive and survive in London. The show space was decorated with towering rolls of carpet, and his chosen fabrics sourced from female weavers in Southern India. Sustainable. And so the women walked, powerful and sure of themselves. Malone likes women like that, dedicating the show to strong women, noting Elizabeth Taylor and his 85 year old grandmother.
Dresses fluttered, chevrons of colour dissecting the body. Long dresses fell recalling peasant style paniers and his already signature prints flowed into smart tablecloth checks. All that innocence of his home town market stalls. Decades and generations. Recycled plastics and viscose were moulded into aprons and shoulder bags. We goin’ shopping today. Sleeves curved in epic proportions, bottle greens, cherry reds and hopeful turquoise all worked in harmony, moving in time with the woman who’s always on the move. Rihanna’s ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ elevated it all to bad ass boss status. On a pursuit. His first and foremost thank you was to Sarah Mower, who we must thank for championing all these young geniuses, she’s doing it for the kids. Yes, Richard Malone is one to watch, one we love to watch. Got our eyes on him. It’s going to be a good London Fashion Week.
