What’s the best way to celebrate the launch of your delightful new tableware collaboration with Italy’s most historic porcelain manufacturer? If you are talented, young aesthete Luke Edward Hall and storied ceramics house Richard Ginori (founded in 1735, and now owned by Kering – the Pope eats off their plates) then you throw a fabulous dinner. And when we say fabulous we mean it. The tables, in the lavish private dining rooms of 5 Hertford Street, were laid with Edward Hall’s colourful designs, inspired by classical antiquity and hand painted at the Ginori factory in Florence. It was as much a feast for the eyes as the mouth. We were served four courses on plates that got increasingly prettier (or was that the wine?) and can swear, with a freshly manicured hand-on-heart, that everything tastes better on Ginori porcelain. The entire collaboration goes on sale today and we recommend accessorising with gold cutlery – stainless steel is just too plain for these fanciful plates.
