It may not be time to board the Eurostar headed for the Parisian runways just yet, but we’ve already got one upcoming collection running through our minds. Always heavily anticipated, Raf Simons’s next offering just got even more exciting thanks to the announcement of a new line of his coveted Runner trainers. This season, the sportswear-influenced footwear will be reimagined in eight new styles, numerous colourways and natural fabrics of leather and suede. But in keeping with the new decade, Simons’ focus is shifting to the future.
In true Raf style, he’s keeping his trainers close to his chest, so we’ll have to wait patiently for the debut on the AW20 runway before catching a glimpse of his sporty kicks. But after his previous re-design of the Adidas Ozweego paving the way for the chunky trainer rebirth, we’re positive any shoe hit with the Raf Simons midas touch is headed for stellar fame. With names like Solaris, Cylon and Orion pointing to some serious throwback sci-fi film inspo, the collection is set to challenge current trainer silhouettes, with a focus on shape, form and function. Hinting at the designer’s ongoing plans of technical innovation, what could Raf have in store? A hovering trainer to carry us from show to show and save us those dreaded walking journeys caused by the ongoing strikes? We know by now the designer is impossible to predict, but one thing’s for certain – thanks to Raf, the future just got a whole lot brighter.
The Raf Simons (Runner) line will be shown in the brand’s Paris showroom from 18 to 23 January 2020.
