Rabanne: Ready-To-Wear SS26

Are there beaches on Mars? Rabanne’s Julien Dossena certainly has the wardrobe for an otherworldly trip to the seaside. The designer’s SS26 collection was built around a retro-futuristic spin on 1950s beachwear. He’d been thinking of the “glamorous screen sirens” and “opulent holiday escapism” of that decade, starting with the humble bathing suit.

Here, swimming costumes were reconfigured into A-line dresses in pastel hues, with silver and gold ruffles bouncing from beneath. Elsewhere, bikini tops were framed by embellished cut-out tops, paired nicely with pleated pencil skirts equipped with XXL belts and lashings of floral embroidery.

Dossena’s Fifties deep dive took even more of an exciting turn with his retooling of the wetsuit, cut here into zip-front neoprene pants or shaped into form-hugging frocks that sparkled with lots of gem action. Worn alongside tropical printed tees and silver stilettos that sprouted silver palm tree leaves, these were clothes that shone bright.
