Rabanne: Ready-To-Wear AW26

Clothes with serious swish. The brilliantly mismatched get-ups that populated Julien Dossena’s Rabanne catwalk Thursday shimmied down the catwalk to the menacing, Noughties classic Stress by Justice. Models came at breakneck speeds, drenched in bouncy fringed skirts, dancing chainmail and giant paillettes that flapped frantically across plaid skirts. Highly decorative, the collection was a textural buffet that made for eye-catching results.

The best moments included a men’s mohair overcoat accented with metal eyelets, given the OTT treatment with a baby blue, exaggerated collar. It would be great to see Dossena expand on his Rabanne menswear: the handful of men’s looks that appeared on the catwalk were superb. Like bulky leather jackets with monster-like purple fur creeping from the lining up to the collar. Elsewhere, metal mesh tops and ‘40s style frocks came printed with kitschy florals and plaid slacks were cut wide before pooling nice around the ankle. Combinations were chaotic but all the better for it, like chunky Fair Isle knits lodged under slip dresses that dripped in embellishment. These are looks that could make dressing for even the most mundane moments feel like something of an occasion.
