As we approach twelve months since the pandemic began, our relationship with fashion couldn’t be more different than it was a year ago. We now seek comfort, familiarity. The boys at Proenza Schouler have spent over a decade in the business making women feel great in their clothes, and for autumn/winter 2021, have envisioned a collection that’ll empower the modern with a newfound sense of optimism.
Shot against a vast, modernist home that was made of concrete, the Proenza posse – which included Vice President Kamala Harris’ step daughter, the newly IMG-signed Ella Emhoff – wore an elegant mix of structural tailoring, balmy leather outerwear and dresses with a sensual edge. Knitwear was a primary focus – from chunky cable knit cardies to bias-cut dresses in quenching lime green. The look was complete with supersized tote bags and fluffy XL slippers, which couldn’t be more fitting to lockdown life. Hopefully by the time they hits stores, we’ll be out of this mess, but who’s to say you can’t wear them for your first night out? Clubbing in your slippers? Now that’s a concept we can get behind.
