And so Pitti begins! This morning, we were treated to an intimate breakfast-cum-presentation of Pringle of Scotland 1980s-inspired Spring Summer ’17 collection at the beautiful Palazzo Aldobrandini in Florence, presented by menswear design director, Massimo Nicosia. A city that’s particulary close to his heart, apparently, because he studied here back in the day. The Smiths played out through the venue, hinting to the tone of the collection, including flower embroidered jeans (yes, Pringle do jeans now!) to echo Morrissey’s notorious on-stage flower-clinging. As Massimo showed us around the dreamy venue, he explained that the 1985 film ‘A Room with a View’, set in England and Florence was also a reference he kept returning to. And, much like Miss Lucy Honeychurch, the protagonist of the tale, the collection put me in the mood for engaging in a love affair with a free spirited young gentleman. I leave on Friday, so time is on my side. Oh, if only I could take away these lovely wares and sport them around Pitti to help me do so. Because, although strongly developed from an 80s aesthetic, the balance was subtle enough that the collection felt fresh, modern and very wearable. Fav pieces? The striped collared polo, a burgundy, blue and white ribbed-collar trench and the papery black trousers and jackets. We’ll take them all.
