As Natalie has just reminded me, everybody loves a bit of junk in the trunk. Particularly when 1) that trunk is Louis Vuitton and 2) the contents is actually not junk at all, but a highly monogrammed croquet set finely crafted from ash and hornbeam. Why not use it to relive the Heathers opening sequence with a couple of invited gal pals, one of whom is buried up to the neck, whilst asking another less croquet-apt pal, whether they did, indeed, have a brain tumour for breakfast. Or, alternatively, just drag it around to prove to all you encounter that you are, in fact, mega fucking rich. But this croquet set is actually just but one of many fabulous trunks and travelling devices that you will find in the brand new exhibition in Louis Vuitton’s New Bond Street, The Art of the Journey 1885-2016. “Discover everything from historic and famous trunks to one-off bespoke orders and the latest, most innovative creations in addition to the stories surrounding several of these iconic designs,” the people at Louis Vuitton tell us. “Conceived as an exhibition, this three-week presentation of trunks will be divided into six rooms, each with a varying theme.” Above Croquet Trunk can be located in “The British Summer Room” alongside a “luncheon case” that has room for champagne, coffee and a birthday cake. We’ll take four.
