Prada: The Colours

Before we delve into the point of this page, could we take a moment to appreciate the set, the Prada show set. Did you notice the colours? How the colours of the set were those of the Prada boutiques and shoeboxes? A pale minty green and pastel pink. A palette that continued in the collection. Let’s just call it a sugared-almond colour palette. With a hint of a slightly acidic lime green. But muted. It’s sweet, almost sickly. It’s also more girlish. It’s slightly childlike, in a 1960s baby-doll-dress way, a feeling further underscored by the Fantasia soundtrack. But this being Prada, things are never that simple. Yes, the 1960s theme is visible, not only in the dresses, but also the modish, double-breasted suits, the jackets of which have something of a peacoat about them. They’re worn with slim, cropped trousers that flare ever so slightly at the ankle. But they’re not flimsy. There’s a stiffness to the fabric. A soft, shape-holding stiffness. It feels almost springy, as though you could bounce off it. And what is this miracle fabrication? Double-faced, bonded jersey. You could almost mistake it for neoprene. But it isn’t neoprene, it’s an illusion. And illusions are what Prada do best. Prada like to challenge the wearer, make them think. Which when it comes to clothes, isn’t a bad thing. Sometimes it’s nice to challenge people with your fashion choices.
